The active component in these tablets is identified as a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA). It operates systemically and functions through a dual mechanism, serving as both an anti-inflammatory and a bronchodilator.
Leukotrienes are inflammatory eicosanoids generated by the immune system. They attach to receptors in the airways, contributing to lung and airway inflammation, as well as increased mucus production in asthma patients. By blocking the effects of leukotriene D4 on the CysLT1 receptor, the constriction of the airways is inhibited, leading to improved breathing and better asthma management.
